I am sorry to say that it is pants.
Bought one for my daughters christmas present as it looks identical to the one I got for my wife last year.
I will play contents of 1 level subdirectories
However, unlike my wifes 256Mb version, it will not tell you what track (or even filename) it is playing, or allow you to select the subdirectory of choice. So the only clue as to what track you are on seems to be the track number & how much use is that when you load the thing with tracks.
It will remember what the last track played was when you turn it off, but does not remember how far through you were.
